How to Perm Hair?

1. The hair is washed by clarifying shampoo;
2. The hair is tightly wound around a curler or a rod;
3. The perm lotion is applied to the hair;
4. After a while the perm lotion is thoroughly rinsed;
5. A neutralising lotion is applied;
6. A failure to rinse and neutralise properly can lead to many problems.
7. The hair should not be washed for two to three days.
8. Cut your hair after you perm.
9. If your perm does not take you should wait a while before getting a new one.
10. Because permed hair can be dry, avoid over-use of irons, hot combs, and high-speed blow dryers.
11. Use hair care and styling products that are specifically recommended for permed hair.
12. Wait one week to color your permed hair.
13. If the curls have dropped, use curl boosters and cut down on washings.
14. Avoid bleaching permed hair.

Very fine hair is the worst hair to perm. It needs the minimum amount of perming solution and processing time.

Very straight, coarse hair is often resistant to perms.

Greasy Hair Tips

Try to avoid daily washing. The sebaceous glands are overstimulated, secreting more grease onto the hair. This creates a vicious circle where the more you wash is the greasier it becomes.

Another problem with regular washing is that although the roots are greasy the rest of your hair is stripped of oil and the ends become dry and brittle. Use a mild ph-balanced shampoo and wash hair without rubbing the scalp too much. Only apply conditioner to the mid and ends rather than at the roots.

Watch your diet. Oily and fatty foods can contribute to greasy skin and scalp. Best of all is to use those days when you're at home to give your hair a rest from
daily washing. Try using a children's shampoo as these are often mild enough for greasy hair.

Dry Hair Tips

Dry, coarse and brittle hair needs to be nourished from within; a conditioner that just rinses out won't do the job. Use an intensive moisturising shampoo which will cleanse without excessive rubbing (which will damage the hair more) and follow with a hot oil conditioner. Heat opens up the hair cuticles allowing the moisturiser to penetrate the hair shaft giving it suppleness, bounce and movement. Mousse on dry hair will make it look dull, use a blow drying or thickening lotion instead.

Frizzy Hair Tips

Keep your hair well conditioned with a rich moisturising product. The hairstyle is also important. If your hair is very frizzy you don't want too many layers. Have a few longish ones that will allow your hair to flow. Always use a diffuser when blowdrying which will help control the frizz but will not remove all the body.

Grey Hair Tips

If you only have a little grey a semi-permanent colour wash (stays for six to eight washes) will cover it. For more than 30 per cent grey then a quasi colour covers grey whilst keeping a natural look. When you go grey in patches, a permanent tint or a foil and tone technique - where highlights are woven around the top and crown and a semi-permanent colour is put through the rest of the hair - is the only way to cover up. This creates warmth and depth throughout the hair.

Hair Colouring

The more of your hair you colour the more noticeable the regrowth will be, particularly when going blonder, and the more colour you apply the greater the damage. For that blonde look a few carefully chosen highlights, focusing the lighter ones around the face will give a natural look without obvious regrowth. When colouring light hair remember dye will always come out darker than shown on the box so if, for example, you want dark brown hair choose a mid-brown colour.

Hair Style for Thin Hair

Thin hair can easily be disguised by a really good cut. The natural look is back in fashion so go for a style that suits your hair type as well as your face shape rather than trying to get your hair to do something which doesn't come naturally.

Choose a style that is not too long and shaped into the nape of the neck. There are a variety of products that can also help. Thickening shampoos work well and also make the hair more controllable. A semi-permanent vegetable wash-in colour can also give a feeling of thickness. Careful drying with a blow dry lotion can also help control flyaway static hair.

Faster Hair Growth Tips

So you’re eating a good diet and exercising regularly but your hair is still only growing 1cm a month? Try incorporating the following methods into your routine, and you may experience an increase in your hair’s natural growth rate.

Biotin supplements can be bought online, or in large pharmacies. Also known as Vitamin H, Biotin is a favourite among women wanting to grow their hair long as fast as possible.

Drinking cranberry juice and green tea will boost your body’s immune system, keep your eyes and hair shiny, and it keeps your skin clear as well. Detoxifying your body is important for overall health, but in my experience it has also boosted my hair’s growth rate. Since I began having green tea after every meal and drinking cranberry juice every day, both my hair and nails began growing faster, probably from the detox I was giving my body.

The main objective in increasing your hair’s natural growth rate is staying as healthy as possible. If you can do that, whilst including a weekly scalp massage, daily Biotin supplements, and antioxidants in your diet, you should see an increase in your hair’s growth rate within a month of beginning your new routine.

Curl and Lift Hair style Maintenance

Steps to make Curl and Lift Hair style:

1. Hair is shampooned and conditioned
2. Work mousse all through the hair from the ends to the roots making sure all the hair is covered.
3. Dry the hair using the dryer and allow the curls to sit in the diffuser cup encourages curl formation while the warm air gently dries the hair.
4. Working on one section of hair at a time, crimp the root area.Clasp the hair between the plates of hot crimper and hold for a few seconds before releasing.
5. The first section of hair is crimped at the root.
6. Continue in this manner crimping the front area of hair.Mist hair with styling spray and arrange with your fingers.

Natural Hair Color Tips

Women have been colouring their hair for decades, but recently a new trend has emerged - the return to their natural hair colour. Also known as 'virgin' hair, your natural hair colour is likely to be the most flattering for your face, as well as being extra shiny from not being tortured with hair colourants. It takes years to grow out hair colour damage, but when you do, you will notice the difference in your hair's feel and appearance.

Unless you're going grey, there's no reason why you can't return to your natural colour. Cut as much off as you can stand and make the commitment to yourself not to colour it again in an impulsive moment. It won't look its best for a while, and if you're growing out blonde hair it may look downright ugly - if this is the case, keep dying the lengths of your hair while leaving the roots alone. Take hair vitamins to speed up the growth process, and have the dyed hair trimmed every three to six months. It'll look healthier with every trim, and by the time you have more natural hair than coloured hair, the growth line will be far less noticeable.

And once all that hair has grown out and landed on the salon floor, you'll have easy-to-manage, shiny hair that suits your face and features perfectly. You'll also save a lot of money, while staying on trend.

Hair Style Suggestions

There are two basic types of hair extensions. The first are individual extensions which work best with straight hair, silky hair, fine hair or slightly wavy hair. A good stylist can add them so they’ll look very natural with the movement of your hair. About 18-20 extensions need to be weaved with the natural hair and then secured at their base with a superfine, high strength thread. Although some stylists like to use bonding glue, it’s suggested you don’t allow this because it can damage your natural hair.

The second kind of extensions are wefts. They are groups of extensions attached to a band. These are heavier and bulkier than the individual ones but they are superb for extending length and/or adding height to medium-to-thick textured hair. They’re attached by sewing them directly onto “tracts” (horizontal braids) fashioned from your own hair. The wefts lay under your natural hair, horizontally against your scalp.

The best extensions are customized just for you. They should be chosen and customized to fit your facial structure, needs and lifestyle. They should be flattering in length, texture, shape and color. You need to be sure the look you select suits you well.

Extensions made of 100% human hair make the best extensions. If you have very straight or silky hair, some beauticians prefer to add in a little synthetic hair because its coarser texture lets it adhere more easily to the natural hair.

Once you’re had the extensions added to your hair, they’re, well, your own hair. But, a more delicate hair which needs to be well cared for. No teasing please and no hard tugging either. Use milder products on your hair and when you shampoo, use gentle wiggling motions and travel down towards of end of your hair. It’s good to use conditioner but please use just on the middle and ends of your hair; if used at the base, it might loosen the carefully woven in strands of hair. When towel drying, squeeze gently to remove the moisture. Before you brush your hair, run your fingers through the hair extensions and use a soft bristled hairbrush. Tie you hair back when exercising, participating in rough sports and sleeping. If well-cared for, they can last upwards of three months.

How to avoid hair disasters?

If you're bored with your hair's current length and want a change, make sure you do your research before committing to a new style. Most hair disasters occur when you haven't thought about it enough, and you choose to do something impulsive.

Short hair is not for everyone - there's face shape and lifestyle factors to think about - and you will be changing your image in the eyes of others as well. And yes, long hair can be boring, but there are countless ways to make it more interesting without going for the big chop. Having a trim, getting layers cut in, or getting highlights are all ways that you can change your look without moving into hair-disaster territory.

The major thing to remember is to not become impulsive, especially when you're in the hairdresser's chair. If you feel you may get impulsive it's best to avoid to salon altogether, as we often regret in our leisure the things we do in haste. Learn to love your hair at every length, think carefully before making any big changes, and you'll be doing all you can to avoid those unsightly hair disasters.

Short Hair Care Tips

* For shiniest short hair, using a shine spray or cream puts the glow back into short hair styles.
* Trim often. Every four to six weeks will keep your short hair in style.
* Daily washing of hair is nearly a necessity for short hairstyles. Natural oils are much more evident on short styles and an oily sheen just isn’t the same as a healthy shine!
* Short hair can cut conditioner needs right out of your budget! You will only need it if your hair is naturally very dry. Even so, a little hair conditioner goes a long way. Condition only the ends of short hairstyles.
* Short hair cut doesn’t have to be flat! Spritz a volumizer onto your roots after shampooing and before blow-drying.
* Hold your blow dryer at bay. Too much heat can quickly damage short hair, taking the shine from your style and adding the frizz! Blow dry only until hair is damp and let it finish drying naturally.

Permanent Hair Extensions Maintenance

With regard to permanent hair extensions, which in truth can only ever be semi permanent hair extensions, a great deal of my research was not favourable. Messages were full of dire warnings about hair coming out in lumps because of poor extension application, glue clumping or worse than poor application - disastrous hair extension removal.Whichever method permanent extensions are attached, it is best if they are shampooed just twice a week.

According to articles everywhere, how extensions stayed put on an individual head, was certainly dependent on the method and skill of the application. Even then, there would be a strong chance of shedding with time. Alarm bells rang for me - maintenance on hair extensions seemed heavy to me. I drew the conclusion they were not for me. I also pondered on the fact that I simply might not like wearing them 24/7 especially with the don't wash them daily advice. Many had to keep using them because they had used extensions too often without resting the scalp and hair. Then it became more and more difficult to rectify scalp damage without having hair cut pixie short.

The wearer is also responsible for looking after the extensions well too. A scratchy plastic ball end hairbrush should never be used on extensions. The use of the correct hairbrush such as a Mason Pearson or a paddle brush is important. The best comb to use is a saw tooth comb rather than a cheap moulded comb, which can catch and break extension hair and your own hair.

Sleeping on the hair in an awkward way can pull at your own hair, so can leaning back and catching the long hair extensions when driving. All this can create extra stress and breakage on your own hair.

However they may well be for you for a special event. Daily wear of them simply does not appeal to me. Instead I decided to opt for clip-in human hair extensions. I knew I only wanted to wear the hair extensions for occasional use rather than everyday. Even clip-in extensions if put in incorrectly or removed without care can also cause a little hair damage too. But clip in hair extensions may be perfect for photographic makeovers and the like.

Samll Tips about Hair Extensions

In the society that we live in today it has become second nature to plug a hairdryer, straightener or curling tongs in as part of our daily routine but can these appliances still be used on hair extensions? If your extensions are made from real hair then the answer is, yes you can! However if you are using synthetic hair you shouldn’t be using straightening irons or curling tongs as they can damage the extensions. With regards to the frequency of having hair extensions fitted then providing that your extensions are applied and removed correctly, meaning no damage has been done then you can have your new extensions applied the same day your old ones come out. It is still advisable though, that you give your hair a break once in a while.

Hair Extensions Myths

There are many common myths about hair extensions that you will hear repeated over and over again. Here are 3 common myths about hair extension.

1. Hair extensions do not cause any type of damage to your hair. This is something that many hair extension companies will say. The truth is, you are attaching additional hair to your natural hair by one of many different methods. The added hair can cause extra stress on your natural hair at the roots, because of the extra weight and at the point of attachment, where the extension is attached. Every method of hair extensions has the potential to cause serious damage to your hair. The key to minimizing any damage to your hair is to select your stylist and hair extension method very carefully. A well trained hair extension stylist that uses a quality hair extension product can attach hair extensions to the natural hair with very little damage.

2. Hair extensions are undetectable. No matter what method of hair extensions you go with, there will be a point of attachment. You will definitely be able to tell that there is an extension in your hair. The key to making the hair extensions less detectable to other people is again a well trained hair extension stylist with experience at blending in the extensions with your natural hair.

3. Cheap hair extensions are just as good as the high priced ones. When it comes to hair extensions (there may be a few exceptions) the more money you pay, you are likely to be getting better quality hair and a better trained hair extension stylist. Human hair that has very little processing is more expensive and will tend to last longer without tangles. A high priced hair extension stylist is likely to have attended special hair extension training classes and received many hours of training. They charge higher prices because they must recover all of their costs for training and upgraded equipment.
